Upon your arrival in the village, we encourage you to take a few moments to enjoy the sights, sounds and the sea air that so enhances your senses and can only be experienced first-hand in a place like this. Stand by the water’s edge, imagine the forces of nature and the power and immensity of the ocean in front of you and the stories it holds. You’re about to hear some of those stories. Ask questions of your guide and learn a little more about the area, its history and about those “blue.. not so blue’ rocks… and of course take pictures! Lots of pictures! Your pictures will be as beautiful as the place itself.
You’ll then move on to what makes this tour a truly “must do” and one-of-a-kind experience. It is here you have the opportunity to meet up with an authentic genuine seasoned fisherman. A life-long sea goer who will share with you first-hand true stories, insights and maybe even throw in a few tall tales and “yarns” along the way for good measure. As you sit and listen to him, surrounded by lobster pots and pretty painted fishing boats, he will share with you the how’s, and ways of life of the present-day fisherman/women and lobster haulers – the hearty, tough and ready folks who not only called this place home, but also chose the ocean for their very livelihood. Stories and tales of those gone long before abound. While listening to “The Skipper” you will get a deep sense of what the past was really like for those who lived it, and of those who sailed from the rugged shores to distance waters, some of whom sadly did not return and how that past of long ago still lives on and is in many ways, is alive and present today.
This authentic experience is a must do for those who want the real stories from the people who have lived them. Add in a taste of “Lunenburg Pudding” or “Solomon Grundy” and maybe even a thimble of rum to hail and remember the Rum Runners from back in the day and your tour will be complete.
